UMEDA 01. What is umeda


Why Umeda?

 

 Before the Edo period, Umeda was a land filled with wetlands, but residents of nearby villages planted a lot of plum trees, and plum trees became more and more frequent, forming villages and villagers named Umeda. (Japanese apricot flower is Ume, paddy field is Da in Japanese) 


 

 


Hanshin, Hankyu Line

 

.Umeda is where the Hanshin, Kyoto and Kobe connecting Kobe begin, developed the railway for a smooth start, and as many as three trains were built to leave at the same time.


A popular spot

Umeda has more than 40 skyscrapers and has the largest Hankyu department store in Kansai, Hanshin, Daimaru and Hankyu Menz department stores, as well as complex shopping centers such as Grand Front Osaka, Hep Five, and Ohats Tenjin, Nakazakicho Cafe Street and Umeda Sky building.
